The Xiaomi New Car YU7 is Poised for Launch

Xiaomi Leadership Update: Lei Jun Exits Executive Role to Focus on SU7 EV and Smart Home Ecosystem

Xiaomi has been making frequent moves recently, sparking widespread attention. From the position adjustment of Lei Jun, a pivotal figure in the company, to the renaming of the intelligent driving system of its popular product, the Xiaomi SU7, and the news about the highly anticipated new vehicle, the Xiaomi YU7, these events collectively underscore Xiaomi’s determination and actions in strategic planning and product upgrades.

Lei Jun’s Position Change: Focusing on Strategic Directions

According to the latest data from Tianyancha, a leading enterprise information query platform, Xiaomi Home Commercial Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Xiaomi, recently completed a significant adjustment to its industrial and commercial information. The most notable change is that Lei Jun, the founder, has transitioned from the position of “Executive Director” to “Director”.

Although this change may seem minor at first glance, it carries profound implications. An Executive Director typically engages deeply in the daily operations and management decisions of a company, whereas a Director primarily focuses on formulating and overseeing major corporate strategies. This shift indicates that Lei Jun will gradually reduce his involvement in the day – to – day management of Xiaomi Home, allowing him to allocate more time and energy to shaping the company’s broader, long – term strategic directions.

In fact, Lei Jun has been gradually stepping back from specific management roles in subsidiaries in recent years, and this position adjustment at Xiaomi Home is just another crucial step in this ongoing plan.

Meanwhile, the business scope of Xiaomi Home Commercial Co., Ltd. has been expanded with the addition of sales qualifications for smart home products and hair accessories.

Established in 2017 with a registered capital of 80 million yuan, Xiaomi Home Technology Co., Ltd. has a diverse business portfolio that includes electronic devices, motorcycle accessories, and more. It remains wholly owned by Xiaomi Communications Technology Co., Ltd.

This expansion of the business scope signals Xiaomi’s further exploration in building its ecosystem, aiming to extend its business reach into more areas closely related to consumers’ daily lives.

The New Energy Vehicle Industry Ushered in a Unified Naming of “Assistive Driving”

On the eve of May Day in 2025, a landmark event took place in the new energy vehicle industry. Many major automakers, including Xiaomi, Xpeng, NIO, and Li Auto, announced adjustments to the naming of their intelligent driving systems.

Taking Xiaomi’s cars as an example, its flagship SU7 series took the lead in completing the renaming process in this wave of change. Specifically, the Xiaomi Pilot Pro system (non – lidar version) originally equipped in the SU7 standard model has now been officially renamed “Xiaomi Assistive Driving Pro”, while the Xiaomi HAD system (with lidar) installed in the SU7 Pro/Max models has been renamed “Xiaomi End – to – End Assistive Driving”.

According to Xiaomi’s official introduction, the upgraded assistive driving system has seen significant enhancements, enabling full – process assistance from the starting point to parking at the destination. This includes a series of practical functions such as automatic toll station passage, handling complex road conditions, and intelligent parking.

The collective renaming of “intelligent driving” to “assistive driving” by many automakers reflects a major adjustment in the industry’s technical publicity strategy. In the past, the term “intelligent driving” could easily mislead consumers into thinking that vehicles could drive completely autonomously. Now, replacing it with the more precise and rigorous term “assistive driving” is not only a matter of being responsible to consumers but also a sign of the industry’s growing maturity in technical understanding.

The Xiaomi New Car YU7 is Poised for Launch

During the Shanghai Auto Show, the absence of the new Xiaomi YU7 car triggered a great deal of speculation and attention. In response, Wang Hua, Xiaomi’s PR head, quickly clarified that the launch of the new vehicle is still scheduled for June – July as originally planned. Currently, a wealth of key information about the Xiaomi YU7 has been gradually revealed, generating high anticipation for this new model.

Xiaomi Yu7

In terms of the display system, the Xiaomi YU7 has made bold innovations. It has eliminated the traditional dashboard and head – up display (HUD) and instead adopted the advanced front – windshield projection technology (PHUD), cleverly integrating and projecting important information such as speed and navigation onto the front windshield, providing drivers with a more intuitive and convenient way to access driving information.

In terms of battery life, the new car has introduced an 835 – kilometer long – range version, with a power consumption of only 13.3 kWh per 100 kilometers. This data is highly competitive among models of the same class and is expected to ease consumers’ concerns about the range of electric vehicles. Additionally, in terms of the model lineup, the single – motor version of the Xiaomi YU7 already covers four battery life configurations ranging from 725 to 835 kilometers, further enriching consumers’ choices.

From Lei Jun’s position adjustment to product strategy upgrades, Xiaomi is methodically optimizing its management system and accelerating its layout in the new energy vehicle sector. At the same time, the new business directions in smart home products and hair accessories also paint a new blueprint for the continuous expansion of Xiaomi’s ecosystem. What other surprises Xiaomi will bring in the future remains to be seen.
